Summary of Related Literature on Continuous assessment mechanism

Continuous assessment is a mechanism whereby the final grading of students in the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains of behavior takes into account in a systematic way of his performance during a given period of schooling  which involves the use of variety of modes of evaluation for the purpose of guiding and improving the learning and performance of the student. The general characteristics of continuous assessment are it is systematic, comprehensive, cumulative and guidance oriented. Four other particular characteristics are its simplicity, comprehensibility, validity and integrity. The rationale for the introduction of continuous assessment is due to its vital contribution in enabling the students to continuously get themselves ready in the areas covered in the classroom instruction. They no longer wait for last minutes for one final examination and get themselves involved in examination malpractices and subsequent failure in the school.
The 6-3-3-4 National Policy on Education places great emphasis on the use of continuous assessment. The purpose of this is to make education more meaningful to learner than in the old system. To achieve the objective of the policy on education students have to be properly taught and tested over a period of time using valued and reliable tools for examination.

A COMPARISON BETWEEN PRACTICAL WORK AND THEORETICAL WORK AS IT AFFECT THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF CHEMISTRY STUDENT (A CASE STUDY OF LEACHATE ON THE GERMINATION OF MAIZE SEEDS)

CHAPTER TWO
2.0. Brief Definition of Chemistry
Chemistry is a scientific discipline that describes; from both an experimental and theoretical perspective, the properties and reactions of all elements and all their compounds. As such, it is of fundamental importance in the physical, biological and general sciences. A sound training in chemistry is essential for employment and advancement in scientific and allied careers in teaching, research, the professional, health and environmental regulations, commerce, and industry.
2.1.    Method of Instruction
According to Awoniyi (1979), although the school curriculum of a nation is a joint effort by many people (school administrators, policy makers, parents, teachers and various organizations), the teacher is in a key position with regards to the realization of the objectives of the curriculum. In explaining the relationship of the curriculum processes therefore, Awoniyi (1979) opine that though the aims determine the content of learning, they (aims) can only be realized through using adequate methods whose usefulness has to be evaluated. Instructional method can be taken to be the styles, manners, or way in which a teacher presents information to students in order to achieve educational objectives (Igwebuike and Ekwejunor – Etchie, 1993).

LEACHATE ON THE GERMINATION OF MAIZE SEEDS

2.0. Leachate
Leachate is the liquid that drains or 'leaches' from a landfill; it varies widely in composition regarding the age of the landfill and the type of waste that it contains (Henry and Heinke, 1996). It can usually contain both dissolved and suspended materials.
Leachate is any liquid that is passing through matter, extracts solutes, suspended solids or any other component of the material through which it has passed. Leachate is a widely used term in environmental sciences where it has the specific meaning of a liquid that has dissolved or entrained environmentally harmful substances which may then enter the environment. It is most commonly used in the context of land-filling of putrescible or industrial waste.
In the narrow environmental context; leachate is therefore any material that drains from land or stockpiled material and contain significantly elevated concentrations of undesirable material derived from the material that it has passed through.
2.2.1. Open Dump

A COMPARISON BETWEEN PRACTICAL WORK AND THEORETICAL WORK AS IT AFFECT THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF CHEMISTRY STUDENT (A CASE STUDY OF LEACHATE ON THE GERMINATION OF MAIZE SEEDS)

ABSTRACT
This project aims to study the effects of practical work and the theoretical work on the academic performance of chemistry students. This is important as presently in Nigerian, the academic performance of students is decaling due to over indulgence in the oretical work i.e use of lecture methods in teaching. The sample consists of a total of twenty (20) students drawn from Chemistry Departments of College of Education Warri and College of Education, Agbor. The experimental design was employed. The  Analytical Achievement  Test (AAT) was used for data collection, it   was found that the mean score of students involved in practical work was higher (8) than for those involved in the ortical work (4) Also, 100% leach ate concentration is most favorable for the germination and growth of maize seeds. Therefore practical work leads to higher academic performance and thus should be encouraged at all level of education in Nigerian and that leach ate has effect on the germane of maize seeds.

moral decadence in secondary schools

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1.    Background of the Study
Immorality is dreaded in the society in the time of old, but these days, it has become part and parcel of our everyday life. The school which is seen as an agent of socialization has little or no role to play when it comes to moral decadence. Moral decadence as phenomenon has been over looked in our schools today and it has lead to the poor breed of students in our nation Nigeria. The students who are suppose to be leaders of tomorrow are involving themselves in vices capable of destroying their future, because these students are the future of the Nigerian nation and something need to be done if we are to have good leaders in the future having good qualities moral decadence has eaten into the fabrics of our secondary schools and the Nigerian society as a whole.

Meaning of Moral Decadence

http://distantlibraryng.blogspot.com/
A comprehensive understanding of moral decadence requires first a meaning of morality the term 'morality' is derived from the latin plural 'mores' meaning 'manner' or 'morals' which means generally accepted code of conduct in a society. Therefore we speak of an individual as leading a moral life or of public school morality'. The oxford advanced learner's dictionary define morality as principles concerning right and wrong or good and bad behaviour. Morality can then be seen as a standard set by a society which members of that society are expected to adhere to and any break in rules and regulations accords punishment. According to Norman (1969) "Moral progress has always been made by individuals who have gone against the accepted morality of their day, and so who have generally suffered for doing so".

How to Remove your personal Information on the Internet

Norman went to say that no one acts upon a moral principles or precept or rule, unless he is first aware of it.

Contribution of Family Background of Students to Moral Decadence

http://distantlibraryng.blogspot.com/

The family is the basic unit of society; it is a group of people o various ages who are usually related by birth, marriage or adoption. One of the most important functions of the family is to provide for a child's needs because children are unable to care for themselves. These needs include food, shelter, warmth and clothing, love and companionship, protection and support, care and training, a secure environment in which they can develop into young adults.
According to Norman (1969), "it is the family that shapes personality, influence emotional development and pattern that the child first re-enacts in play and then ultimately reproduces in himself. Groups are obviously to social function but of all the groups we belong, the most important group is the family. Family provides the relationship that gives us a sense of identity and personal history (Minett, 1994). The official definition of family by the United State bureau of the census is two or more persons including the householder who live together as one house hold.

Contribution of Adolescence Stage to Moral Decadence

http://distantlibraryng.blogspot.com/
Adolescence indeed is a time of strong ambivalence attraction towards repulsive from an object person or thing, both for the adolescent and his parents. The adolescent is form between an unwillingness to give up the indulgence of childhood and willingness to accept the privilege and responsibilities of adulthood. The term "adolescence" is gotten from the Latin verb meaning "to grow up" it is a period of life from puberty to maturity. For the biologist, adolescence is the period of rapid growth which begins with an accelerated phase that continues until the attainment of sexual maturity merges unto a decelerating phase and terminates when skeletal growth has ended. While sociologists see it as a social phenomenon because it is a period of positive attainment of growth and of maturation, in other words, it is a period between a stage of transition.

Reasons You Should Cook At Home Instead of Eating Outside

According to Norman (1973), "the hormones poured out into the wood stream at adolescence radically and profoundly affect the whole person".

How to Remove Open Firmware Password in MAC Operating System

I had the chance to troubleshoot a MacBook over the weekend and it took a while trying to figure it out since I don’t use that OS, I’ve always been a Windows guy right from the days of Windows 2000. The MacBook belonged to a friend and the open firmware password rendered the MacBook almost useless.
Initially, there was a blinking folder icon with a question mark on the screen and a lot of suggestions pointed to a bad HDD or some connecting cable. These were both changed but the problem persisited. Here are four possible causes of this probelm as explained by Apple:

  • Problem with the computer’s PRAM.
  • Boot drive’s directory has been corrupted – fix by repairing with Disk Utility.
  • Critical system files are damaged or deleted – Fix by reinstalling OS X.
  • The disk drive is physically non-functional – Replace the hard drive.

I tried to boot into Lion Recovery mode by holding the Command and R key while booting up but then the open firmware password prompt came up. He didn’t know the password, neither did I.
Well here is a fix that worked. It removed the open firware password and also fixed the blinking folder icon with question mark.
Shut down the MacBook and remove your charger completely.
Unscrew the MacBook and change the RAM configuration. It’s either you add or remove a RAM chip till you’re sure the amount has changed. You either increase or decrease it.
Re-assemble and screw it back.
Hold these buttons and start up the machine: Command+Option+P+R. You must hold these keys until the screen sort of flashes 3 times. This resets the PRAM and under normal circumstances, the firmware password should’ve been cleared.

I HOPE THIS HAVE BEEN VERY INFORMATIVE.

HOW TO ATTRACT VISITORS THROUGH WEB PRESENTATION

Web design has truly evolved in the recent years, considering the technology that is being used to create and view them is constantly upgraded. It has given rise to a number of professions, particularly in the field of web development. Add the fact that it is a subject of numerous studies and relatively new, it is still undergoing upgrades and overhauls.
web design
With that said however, a lot of people have conflicting ideas with regard to how a website should be presented to users. Doing so requires intensive planning; it’s like a jigsaw puzzle, you need to be able to place the pieces in the right location. With that said, what are the things to remember in presenting a web design in order to reel in visitors and hold their attention?
Also read: Four Ways Poor Web Design Can Make You Lose Customers
Attractive aesthetics is not everything

In web presentation, you need to be able to remember that a website’s overall aesthetics is not the only factor in defining it. Remember, it’s not the looks that define a website – it’s the usability and utility. This is the reason why you need to be able to ONLY incorporate a simple design that is pretty understandable to users, especially to your target audience. Remember, do not put in much effort in making it look more attractive than a beauty queen – make it look more like a an organized shopping list. Free and simple themes like those created by WordPress is a recommended backbone in creating designs – follow their example.

Promoting usability and functionality
A website’s functionality is everything; this aspect includes the organization of material, as well as navigation system and the arrangement of content. Here are some things you need to put in mind:
Create an intuitive navigation bar. Usually placed just below the site’s header and logo, text-based and definitive navigation bars are pretty important in guiding users around your site. Never let your visitors think; allow them to sift through the pages with ease.
Never try to recreate the web design. Although originality is not necessarily a bad thing, you should never attempt to create your own design. Instead, go with what has been proven effective.
Put in the desired content immediately. Users rarely go to one section of a website to another, instead, they immediately choose the first viable option. They go to what they see first and if they don’t find it, they’ll switch sites.
Maintaining focus. As mentioned previously, organizing your site’s content is like putting in pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. In order to maintain the focus of your visitors remember to draw your user’s attention to the area were the content is. Simply do so by avoiding placing ads and other elements that can deviate their attention.
As for the content, be sure to avoid complicated words and jargons. Write for the general audience – make it understandable and only use simple words.

Contribution of Mass Media to Moral Decadence

http://distantlibraryng.blogspot.com/
Nicholas Johnson is of he view that television educates us away from life and far away from our individuality. It drives us to line up at the counters of drug stores and supermarkets, shaping our needs and wants and ultimate us into the molds that are the products. Not only does it explicitly peach conspicuous consumption, status consciousness, sex exploitation and fantasy words of quick solutions even the settings and subliminal message are commercial for the consumption style of life. Most of the luxuries and many of the so-called comforts of life are not only indispensable but positive hindrance to the elevation of mankind. Henry David theory, it casual mention on television can affect viewer's attitudes and behaviour.
Little reported that the romance of movies not just in those stories and those people on the screen but in the adolescence dream of meeting others who feel as you do about what you have seen. It would be extremely difficult for young people on the basis of what they see now in the movies to have any clear picture of the important things in the country and the world, and the things human beings must believe. Our media apparently are suggesting to them that nothing is important, that everything is absurd and ridiculous and utterly trial. And this is intolerable. Kenneth B. Clark Prof of psychology at City College of the University of New York). According to Biagi (1989), infact, it has been speculated that the mass media set the agenda for much of what we do. The media are often telling us what should and should not be important to us socially, culturally, educationally, politically and economically.

School Teachers Contribution to Moral Decadence

http://distantlibraryng.blogspot.com/

In Nigeria increasingly the conscientious, devoted, enthusiastic and industrious teacher is disappearing as frustrating mounts to inhibit his performance, his personality and in particular that must essential attribute of a good teacher is his individuality.
According to Fleming (1989), "frustrations of the basic human needs of adventure of affection recognition and of responsibility have their effect upon behaviour in schools as well as at home". The journal on the question of the falling standard of education considered the teacher in the school environment as a "pivot and a long-pin" this is to say that the school teachers are the most important personality in the school system and the teacher can either contribute positively or negatively to the students moral quality.
According to Akpochafo (1992), sees the teachers as "someone who has gone through a level of professional training and is both certificated and actually teaching in institution". According to O' Hearl (1981) "The need for schooling is to prepare pupils for adult life". Therefore it is necessary to give them a good basic for self-sufficiency both economic and intellectual even though life is not purely economic and intellectual but also emotional and personal, some insight is needed into the way in which one ought to conduct one's personal and social life.

Absence of Moral Education in Schools

Over 2,000 years ago, Plato argued that "the purpose of education is not to let children do their own thing", nor to let them find out what they want out from life, but to fit them for the role in society to which they are most suited. According to Hurlock (1978), "when children go to school they discover their conduct are controlled by school rules the school therefore is an embodiment of principles rules and regulations.
In the past, the running of education was carried out by the Christian Missionaries and Moral Education was given to the students both at home and at school.
The missionaries were practical moralist who would not condole any act of indolence by their pupils and along with the teaching of live, they did not spear the rod. According to Ajeyalemic (1987), "the separation of moral education from religious education was brought about by the spirit of nationalism in 1960 in order to get our education off colonial hang-over with a view of making Nigerian education serve national goals and aspirations. According to Professor O.A. Ndula (1983) Nigeria in its decade of independence is in a state of moral crisis – a deepening crisis which pervades every aspect of national life.

MEANING OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT
