A SURVEY OF THE ATTITUDE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TOWARDS CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT PRACTICE

ABSTRACT
This study investigated the attitude of teachers towards continuous assessment in secondary school in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. A total of 180 respondents made up of reading teachers and students were selected for the test. The cluster sampling technique was used in the selection. Among the major objectives of the study were the determination of the relationship between teacher’s continuous assessment and student’s performances in examination and influence of teacher’s years of teaching experience on their conduct of continuous assessment. Data collected were subjected to statistical analysis using the correlation procedure. The result revealed that teacher’s years of experience did not significantly correlate with their conduct of continuous assessment. The students continuous assessment was observed to be significantly correlated with the students performance in their examination based on the findings, some recommendation were made to guide teachers and educational administrators in knowing why they should improved in their positive attitude in order to have an effective teaching and learning process.
