Significance of the Study
This
research work will be beneficial to both students and educators alike in the
teaching and learning field as it would help them realize the effectiveness of
the continuous assessment and work toward putting it to use.
It will also be beneficial to the
Ministry of Education as it would help the government to ascertain the
difficulties encountered by teachers in the implementation of continuous
assessment and work towards improving its usage in secondary school assessment.
Lastly,
the study will provide adequate literature to the general public, other
educational experts and researchers who intend to carry out further
investigation on the effectiveness of continuous assessment in secondary
schools.

Limitations of the Study
The major problems the researcher
encountered during the course of the study was that of finance and time factor,
as the period given for the accomplishment of the study was too short and other
educational activities and personal commitments highly competed with the field
survey and writing the project. Hence the work was compressed to cover only a
limited area of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Operational Definition of Terms
For
purpose of clarity, the following terms are operationally defined:
1. Assessment: A judgment about something based on an
understanding of the situation.
2. Continuous Assessment: An evaluation in which the
final grading of a student takes account of the student’s whole performance
during a given period of schooling.
J.S.S.: Junior Secondary School – A school
