ABSTRACT
The study was designed to assess students’ perception of some factors that influence their academic performance in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. To direct the study, three research questions and three hypotheses were stated and formulated. The study adopted the survey research design and the population of the study comprised all senior secondary schools students in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. The sample size of the study comprised of two hundred (200) respondents randomly selected from five secondary schools.
Data for the study were collected using researcher developed questionnaire. In analyzing the data collected, simple percentage was used to test the research questions, while t-test statistics was used to test the hypotheses at an alpha level of 0.05. The data analyzed revealed that the factors influencing students’ academic performance include problem of insufficient and inefficient teachers, poor commitment to teaching, inexperience and lack of professionalism, low parents’ socio-economic status, political instability and unconducive school environment. Also, it was revealed that there is no significant difference between the mean scores of male and female students on the factors influencing academic performance, impact of parents/home and impact of school environment on academic performance.
