It is well-known fact that the quality of an educational system depends on its teachers. So for effective learning in any subject, the teacher is expected to employ everything at his disposal. For instance Onwuka (1981) is highlighting some basic principles for teaching stated “the teacher has to provide opportunities for the pupils to satisfy their needs and curiosity”. He further points out that “education is a living thing and teachers should realize and show that, through activities that can create a relaxed atmosphere so that nobody feels threatened”.
This implies that the failure of students is the failure of their teachers. A teacher of educational psychology (Ibeh, 1990). “Too much anxiety and tension disorganized the cognitive process and hinders the performance of the learners”. Therefore, it is necessary that teachers avoid the use of stressful procedures that can create anxiety and frustration for the students. Ibeh (1990) claims that students learn better when the principles of pleasure, pain, competition and co-operation are applied. A teacher should not always think only about how to make teaching easier for himself. He should also think about how to make learning easier for his students by thinking of how to teach effectively, because children really learn more readily if they are willing to learn, it implies that students should be made to want to learn and to learn. This can only be done through the selection of appropriate learning experiences and activities, appropriate in the sense that these must suit their age and class.
According to Onwuka (1981), students learn better if the learning activities involved are meaningful and not removed from their personal experience.
