Abstract
The study was designed to ascertain the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in the effective teaching of mathematics in secondary schools in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. To direct the study, three research questions were stated.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research design and the population of the study comprised all teachers in secondary schools in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. The sample size of the study comprised of one hundred (100) respondents from ten secondary schools. Data for the study were collected using researcher developed questionnaire. In analyzing the data collected, mean ratings was used to test the research questions and a mean of 2.50 and above was adopted as the cut-off point. The data analyzed revealed that the level of ICT competence required by mathematics teachers in secondary schools is low, the extent to which mathematics teachers demonstrate familiarity with knowledge and application of ICT is low and the competences required by the mathematics teachers include internet accessibility in educational research, information retrieval, exchange of research, storage of valuable files and update of knowledge. Based on these findings, some recommendations were made at the end of the study.
