This chapter is concerned with the analysis of data collected for the study and their presentations.

Data Analysis

Research Question
What are the potential sources of occupational stress experienced by secondary school principals in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State?

Table 4.1: Mean of the Major Potential Sources of Stress Experienced by Principals

Potential Sources
Mean

2.

3.

4.

8.
Lack of cooperation on the part of parents (e.g. in paying school fees, levies and attending school activities)
2.92
1.11
The table above shows that the potential sources of principals stress include: delayed or irregular payment of salary; inadequate financial support for the school and lack of adequate infrastructure and equipment needed in school. The least potential sources of principals’ stress include having to receive visitors, the expectation to render proper accountability and relationship with school board.
Testing the Hypotheses
Hypothesis One
There is no significant difference in the degree of stress experienced by male and female secondary school principals in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Table 4.2: Z-Test Analysis on the Degree of Stress Experienced by Principals based on Gender

Female

The table above shows that the z-calculated value is 0.19 whereas the critical value is 1.96. Since the z-calculated is less than the z-critical value, this means that there is no significant difference in the degree of stress experienced by male and female principals. The null hypotheses that there is no significant difference in the degree of stress experienced by male and female principals in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State is therefore accepted.
