This
section deals with the difficulties affecting the teaching of business studies
in Nigeria. Osuala, (1981).
a. Insufficient Funds:
One of the problems still existing is insufficient funds; funds are usually not enough to erect building, buy equipment and facilities. Business studies are capital-intensive especially considering the cost of typewritersb. Low Status Rating:
The general public usually think business studies is a course for those who could not gain admission into the university, for a fresher undergraduate, puzzled members of the public ask business what, then only think of business administration or management that education is involved in business.c. Antagonism by Competitors:
Several public servant often thought that private initiatives in business student are purely for commercial purpose from inception of these private efforts, many people branded them ‘commercial’ thereby imputing negative motives to those efforts whereas the western Nigeria government appreciated this arm of education and supported the people from eastern Nigeria consistently suspected this non-grammar school type of education this impression is warning slowly today.d. Insufficient Supply of Books:
Business studies especially for teachers, lack relevant books. There are few books and journals in circulation. This serious handicap is caused by among other things, the overworked nature of potential writers, absence of foundational research studies at various levels for example the history of or status report on business studies is very scanty. Also where books are written, patronage is received only from those who know and respect the writer. This makes publishers hesitant accept to publish since they are in business to reap on their investment. Another reason is the lack of understanding among business education. In fact many people outside business studies do not know or accept the professional definitions of business studies.
Therefore they can under-rate this
aspect of education calling it education for the “inferior class” merely
because the professional business educators also studies education and
methodology in addition to business courses. Usually business education students
takes same course and examination with those in business administration or
management faculty in schools but the usually Nigeria or African attitude has
been transferred to institutions of learning (Egbule and Okobia, 2000).
