communities which differ in size, objectives and degree of interaction among
members,
They influence ideas and actions of
others. They have effective means of
changing the structure of the communities, harnessing their resources and
improving agricultural development.
There are various components that make
up community-based organizations. They
are community development associations, youth associations, women
organizations, and cooperative societies.
2.0 Community
Development Associations
Community
development associations are formed due to the greater application of
self-reliance and the knowledge that the government cannot provide all
community needs.
Since 1986, the community, including
the farmers was empowered by the government of Nigeria to call on the private
sector to play active role in job creation, provision of social services and
welfare packages to workers.
Communities have been encouraged
through counterpart funding to identify plan and implement community
agricultural and rural development projects with governments of Nigeria.
Mode
of Formation
The officers occupy the post by
election or appointment.
They
have the position of chairman, secretary, auditor, financial secretary, public
relation officer and social welfare.
Other
members of the association are the indigene of that particular town.
They
have written constitutions and almost all depend on contributions from members.
Objectives
The major goal of all the community
development associations is the development of their communities.
Other goals are educational,
mobilizing the people for self-help and adult literacy and safeguarding the
security of the neighborhood.
It could also be use for promoting the
socio-economic development of the areas..................................................................................................
