Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo completes 2nd powered flight

Billionaire Richard Branson's planned commercial spacecraft had a successful test flight Thursday, rocketing into the skies over California after being dropped from its carrier plane, his company announced.

Branson's Virgin Galactic said SpaceShipTwo broke the sound barrier, climbed from 42,000 feet to 69,000 feet over the Mojave Desert under rocket power and descended using its tilt-wing "feathering" maneuver. It's the second powered flight for SpaceShipTwo, which is designed to carry up to six passengers on what will be suborbital flights at first.

"In addition to achieving the highest altitude and greatest speed to date, the test flight demonstrated the vehicle's full technical mission profile in a single flight for the first time ... All of the test objectives were successfully completed," the company said.
In a video showing highlights of Thursday's test flight, Branson said Virgin Galactic plans to start taking passengers aloft in 2014

How to copy files to and from a BlackBerry 10 smartphone using Wi-Fi Sharing

The next time you need to copy files to or from your BlackBerry 10 smartphone, instead of grabbing a USB cable you can use Wi-Fi sharing instead. Once you have set up your smartphone for Wi-Fi access you’ll be able to transfer files between a Windows or Mac OS computer and your BlackBerry 10 device.
For example, every time I visit my parents and show them pictures I’ve taken recently, I’ll hop on their laptop, access my smartphone and copy their favourites so they always have a copy.
This is just one of many useful applications for this feature so without further ado, here’s how to do it!
Step 1 – Turn on Wi-Fi Access
Complete the following steps to turn on Wi-Fi access as well as set up a password to restrict access to your smartphone over Wi-Fi.

  1.  While viewing the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2.  Tap Settings followed by Storage and Access
  3. Set the Access using Wi-Fi switch to On
  4. When prompted, enter a storage access password
  5. Tap Identification on Network and make note of the Username

Tip: If you haven’t already, give your BlackBerry 10 smartphone a nickname so it’s easy to identify on your network. To do this, tap Settings on your home screen followed by About. Within this screen, set your desired nickname in the Device Name field.
Step 2 – Identifying your smartphone’s IP address
Once you have enabled Wi-Fi access to your smartphone, the next step is to identify your smartphone’s IP address so you can connect to it using your computer.

    1. While viewing the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
   2.  Tap Settings followed by About
   3.  Tap the Category bar and select Network
  4.   Under Wi-Fi, record your IPv4 address
When recording your IP address, you only need to record the first 4 quadrants, i.e. 12.34.56.78. You do not need to record the trailing number, you only need the first four quadrants (the bolded numbers), i.e. 12.34.56.78/22

Step 3 – Accessing your smartphone over Wi-Fi using a PC or Mac OS
Since we have enabled Wi-Fi access to your smartphone and obtained the IP address, all that’s left to do is connect your computer to your smartphone.
How to access a BlackBerry 10 smartphone over Wi-Fi using Microsoft Windows

On your Microsoft Windows computer, select Start followed by Run
If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, you may need to search for the Run option first. If you cannot find the Run option, open My Computer on your computer’s desktop and type the address mentioned in the next step in the My Computer address bar instead.
Enter the following “\\1.1.1.1\” and replace 1.1.1.1 with the IP address you identified earlier in step 2

    1. When prompted, enter BlackBerry for the username and type the Wi-Fi access password you set earlier in step 1
    2. Your smartphone file system will appear on your desktop. Select Media to access your smartphone memory or select Removable_SDCARD to access the MicroSD card

Five Africans countries to win $25,000 in Google’s Africa connected competition

The software giant, Google has flagged off Africa connected competition calling on entrepreneurs, creators, innovators and web-lovers in Nigeria and across Africa to share their stories of how the web has transformed their lives and work.

In the competition, Five successful entrants are expected to win  $25,000 each, and will also have the opportunity to work with a Google sponsor over a six-month period.

Google’s new initiative, ‘Africa Connected: Success stories powered by the web’, aims to gather the largest collection of inspiring stories about ventures established online by Africans, in Africa.

“Google wants to hear from young, spirited entrepreneurial web adopters in Nigeria and other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa who have a healthy disregard for the impossible and who are using the web and technology to do cool and extraordinary things to rise above their circumstances, change their world, and achieve success. We want to showcase the amazing achievements happening in the new Africa”, Affiong Osuchukwu, Google Lead for the Africa Connected initiative, said.

Aspiring filmmaker, cinematographer and editor Amuwa Oluseyi Asurf is one such example. This Nigerian videographer has gone from spending nights in internet cafes, so that he could watch YouTube to teach himself how to edit films, to running a successful film and video production company in Lagos, where he employs 10 people.

His company; Asurf Films is today courted by Nigerian celebrities such as Basket Mouth, Iyanya, Wizkid, Psquare and Bovi, to film their music/entertainment videos locally and internationally.

“My journey started with a passion to become a filmmaker. Unfortunately, even though I got admission to some good universities, I couldn’t afford to go. Luckily I was introduced to the internet and to YouTube. I discovered I could learn everything I needed to know online. It feels great to have some of the top celebrities in Nigeria inviting me to their projects. This inspires me to want to become even better. I am still on the journey to becoming one of the top names in African filmmaking, and I know the internet will still continue to play an important role.”

The owner and creator of Afrinolly, Chike Maduegbuna, based in Nigeria, is another online entrepreneur. Afrinolly is a popular mobile app which lets people across the continent watch short videos on their mobile devices.

This app has transformed Nigeria’s Nollywood film industry by creating a movie trailer platform for new audiences. With over 3 million downloads already since its launch in August 2011, Chike hopes this will create a platform that connects aspiring film professionals with global film industry veterans.

Various Dimensions of Examination Malpractice

Examination malpractice occurs in various dimensions in the school system, and at different stages of the examination namely: pre-examination phase, during examination and post-examination phase. At each phase, the formal dimensions differ, sometimes; the dimensions are peculiar to institutions of learning where examination malpractice is practiced.
A.    Pre-Examination Phase: Before the commencement of most public examinations, some misconducts normally occur which include:

Use of Theory of Measurement Error to Explain the Menace of Examination Malpractice

The harm perpetuated by examination malpractice can be properly understood by using a popular educational measurement equation, which is:
    X = T ± E
Where X = Observed score (one given by examiner to any student in a given examination as representing the student’s ability).

The Concept of Examination Malpractice

Examination malpractice has been defined variously by many authors; some ten (10) definitions/views are presented here:
i.    Chukwuemeka (1982) referred to examination malpractice as violation of examination rules and regulations by candidates.
ii.    Aliyu (1996) looked at examination malpractice as an irregular behaviour related to the examination exhibited by candidates or anybody charged with the conduct of examination in or outside the examination hall before, during and after the examination.
