Restoring The Glory Of Breast feeding

IN Nigeria and Africa as a whole, breastfeeding has been the most culturally acceptable mode of feeding babies within the first two years of life. As a practice, breastfeeding has a strong connotation for promoting the bonding that started at pregnancy between mother and child.

Breastfeeding in the Nigerian setting has always been a thing of pride.   Culture actually demands that every mother should breastfeed her child except otherwise advised. Nigerian mothers used to be well known for breastfeeding anytime and anywhere.

Some even breastfeed while working on the farms, which is why advocates of breastfeeding recommend the continuation of the practice by breastfeeding babies wherever mothers earn their living.

Breast milk serves as the best food for babies that are less than six months. Breastfeeding a child provides all the goodness of breast milk that are known to be uniquely superior and vital for optimal infant physical, emotional and mental growth. It is essential for their healthy development and all other short and long term outcomes.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life to achieve optimal growth.

In response to the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, the Federal Government established the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) in Benin, Enugu, Maiduguri, Lagos, Jos and Port Harcourt with the aim of providing mothers and their infants a supportive environment for breastfeeding and to promote appropriate breastfeeding practices, thus helping to reduce infant morbidity and mortality rates.

It is, however, worrisome and unacceptable that Nigeria currently has one of the lowest exclusive breastfeeding rates in Africa.  In a National Demographic Health Survey (NDHS), the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the country stood at 13 per cent.

Despite sustained efforts, exclusive breastfeeding rates in Nigeria have fallen well below the WHO/UNICEF recommendation of 90 per cent for children less than six months in developing countries. Currently, exclusive breastfeeding rates in Nigeria compare poorly with other neighbouring countries in Africa.

As the global community marks this year’s edition of the annual World Breastfeeding Day with the theme – “Breastfeeding And Work: Let’s Make It Together”, more involvement and dedication is required to galvanise multi-dimensional support to enable women everywhere work and breast feed.

Nursing mothers in particular require more support to combine breastfeeding with work in the formal, informal and home setting. The private sector must get involved in the process of encouraging breastfeeding mothers through provision of crèches and breastfeeding rooms in work places while approving flexible work hours for mothers.

The promotion of actions by employers to become baby friendly and actively facilitate the support of employed mothers to preserve and reap the benefits of the age-long practice of breast feeding, is a task that must be done.

ANDROID DATA PLANS

After BBM was lunched on android phones, the demand for android phones increased thereby bringing demand for blackberry very low. with just N14,000 one can get him/herself an android phone with BBM, Whatsapp, Facebook, high definition games, Email to mention but a few compared to blackberry. As at the time BBM was lunched on Android Phone, the cost of the lowest blackberry is not less that N20,000 and don't ask me how much Bold 5 is being sold now. lolz

But there is a problem, Guys have not been able to enjoy their device to the fullest because of the high cost of internet subscription from the network providers. 50 percent of the features that come with android phones are not been utilized.

There seem to be privilege that blackberry users enjoy over android phones. this is what i call intimidation. imagine the idiosyncrasy. with 1000, a blackberry user will surf the net with an unlimited download but not possible with Android user.

Thanks to Airtel that still allow their BIS to run on other device. one might think that they are stupid, i tell you there are not. Show me an android user that doesn't have Airtel SIM, for them, Airtel is sure of their 1500 every month not to be shared with any other network. lolz.

But how long will this keep happening?, How long are we going to wait before the network providers bring data bundle package like BIS for android users.

Believe me in no distant time, that will be made possible but for the main time, I bring to you some of the packages that is favorable enough.

Option 1
with MTN night plan N2500, you will be offered 4.5G of internet access with which 1.5G will run for day and night until you exhaust it. Thereafter the remaining 3G will be for night only 9pm to 6am.

Option II
with Glo N1000 month plan, you will be given 350MB to manage. better than non brother.

Option III
You can go for Airtel BIS month plan. where you will be given 1.5G to browse with.
N/B Only Airtel BIS can run on any device and the month plan for 1.5G cost N1500 as at the time of this publication.

For more information on how to activate any of the plans mentioned above, Just leave a comment bellow or call me on 07034538881

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for Android and iPhone Relaunched (Download Link Included)

BBM producers promised we would be the first to know when BBM™ for Android™ and iPhone® is available. We’re excited to announce that the rollout has resumed!

The BlackBerry Messenger BBM for Android phones and iPhone is back for free.
Due to incredible demand there is a line-up to start using BBM. But, since you took the time to sign up in advance, we'd like to give you the chance to start using BBM on Android or iPhone right away without having to wait in line. Here's what to do to get past the line-up: BBM.com from your iPhone or Android browser to download BBM.

Here's what to do to get past the line-up:

  1. Visit BBM.com from your iPhone or Android browser to download BBM.
  2. Once the BBM app has been installed, open it.
  3. When asked to "Enter your email address to check if you can start using BBM", use the email address this message was sent to.
  4. Get started with setting up BBM.
Note to iPhone users: Apps can take up to a few hours to appear in the App Store so if you don’t see it right away, it will be there soon.

BBM for Android and iOS now available, but there's a wait list

BlackBerry has announced that BlackBerry Messenger will be released today for Android and iOS. The company originally planned to release its messaging app late last month, but those plans were abruptly pushed back when an early version of the Android app publicly leaked ahead of schedule. The company says that "about 1 million" Android users were using the unreleased version of BBM for Android, and BlackBerry is also claiming that more than 1 million iOS users managed to "side load" the app onto iPhone. "In the next few hours, people will start seeing BBM in Google Play, the App Store and in select Samsung App Stores," the company says.

But unfortunately it appears that BlackBerry is still very much concerned about an initial surge of users. It's implementing a registration wait list; upon opening the app, you'll have to enter an email address to reserve your spot. Anyone that signed up for information about the mobile apps at BBM.com won't have to wait, but new signups will have to deal with the virtual queue. Despite being despised by users, the wait list has become an increasingly popular tactic among startups. Still, it strikes us as odd to see BlackBerry using the strategy. "We are focused on moving millions of customers through the line as fast as possible," BlackBerry says. The company will be providing updates on "how quickly the line is moving" via its Twitter account. BlackBerry first announced that its BBM client would be going multi-platform in May.

Update: BlackBerry has announced that the BBM app is now available for download from the iTunes App Store and Google Play

BBM for Android and iPhone hits 10m download mark

BlackBerry rolled out the official BBM app for Android and iOS after numerous delays, and the firm has netted 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours.

BBM is available as a free download in the Google Play market, Apple App Store and select Samsung App Stores. However, due to high demand for the app BlackBerry has been limiting access.

Users who signed up at BBM.com, will get a headstart and should be able to use BBM on their Android or iOS device immediately. Those who didn't sign up will have to register and wait for an email before they can activate the app.

Despite the delay, uptake of BBM has proved incredibly popular, with the @BBM confirming the ten million user mark had been surpassed.
The software was originally expected to debut on Android and iPhone devices on 21 and 22 September, respectively. However, this was scrapped after an incomplete version of BBM for Android appeared online hours before its official launch.

This unofficial app was downloaded by more than 1.1 million people during its first eight hours of availability.

The company has also revealed that around three million people have registered to be notified exactly when the app will be available.

In a statement, BlackBerry said it was heartened by the initial response to the release, despite the issues it has caused.
As a result, it confirmed that the worldwide rollout of the software for both iPhone and Android users has now been put on hold.

"Customers who have already downloaded BBM for iPhone will be able to continue to use BBM. The unreleased Android app will be disabled, and customers who downloaded it should visit www.BBM.com to register for updates on official BBM for Android availability," the statement continued.

"As soon as we are able, we will begin a staggered country rollout of BBM for Android and continue the rollout of BBM for iPhone," it concluded.

In a follow up statement, Andrew Bocking, head of BBM at BlackBerry, shed some further light on the technical issues caused by the unofficial, older release.

"This older version resulted in volumes of data traffic orders of magnitude higher than normal for each active user and impacted the system in abnormal ways," he explained.

"The version we were planning to release on Saturday addressed these issues, however we could not block users of the unreleased version if we went ahead with the launch."

As a result, the software is unlikely to see the light of day this week, as his team works to get the unreleased version taken out of circulation.

"We are also making sure that the system is reinforced to handle this kind of scenario in the future. While this may sound like a simple task – it’s not. This will take some time and I do not anticipate launching this week," he added.

However, as reported by IT Pro, BBM could be set to make its debut on iPhone and Android devices sooner rather than later, with the firm's CMO claiming the reworked software will be released "within days".

"Whoever is interested in BlackBerry understands the company has world class products and services. These are products and services that customers can continue to count on," he said.

The article also states that, as of Tuesday 15 October, six million users had already pre-registered for both versions of BBM.

Reports had previously suggested that BlackBerry was gunning for a summer launch, for both Apple and Android, but this failed to materialise.

How to copy files to and from a BlackBerry 10 smartphone using Wi-Fi Sharing

The next time you need to copy files to or from your BlackBerry 10 smartphone, instead of grabbing a USB cable you can use Wi-Fi sharing instead. Once you have set up your smartphone for Wi-Fi access you’ll be able to transfer files between a Windows or Mac OS computer and your BlackBerry 10 device.
For example, every time I visit my parents and show them pictures I’ve taken recently, I’ll hop on their laptop, access my smartphone and copy their favourites so they always have a copy.
This is just one of many useful applications for this feature so without further ado, here’s how to do it!
Step 1 – Turn on Wi-Fi Access
Complete the following steps to turn on Wi-Fi access as well as set up a password to restrict access to your smartphone over Wi-Fi.

  1.  While viewing the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2.  Tap Settings followed by Storage and Access
  3. Set the Access using Wi-Fi switch to On
  4. When prompted, enter a storage access password
  5. Tap Identification on Network and make note of the Username

Tip: If you haven’t already, give your BlackBerry 10 smartphone a nickname so it’s easy to identify on your network. To do this, tap Settings on your home screen followed by About. Within this screen, set your desired nickname in the Device Name field.
Step 2 – Identifying your smartphone’s IP address
Once you have enabled Wi-Fi access to your smartphone, the next step is to identify your smartphone’s IP address so you can connect to it using your computer.

    1. While viewing the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
   2.  Tap Settings followed by About
   3.  Tap the Category bar and select Network
  4.   Under Wi-Fi, record your IPv4 address
When recording your IP address, you only need to record the first 4 quadrants, i.e. 12.34.56.78. You do not need to record the trailing number, you only need the first four quadrants (the bolded numbers), i.e. 12.34.56.78/22

Step 3 – Accessing your smartphone over Wi-Fi using a PC or Mac OS
Since we have enabled Wi-Fi access to your smartphone and obtained the IP address, all that’s left to do is connect your computer to your smartphone.
How to access a BlackBerry 10 smartphone over Wi-Fi using Microsoft Windows

On your Microsoft Windows computer, select Start followed by Run
If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, you may need to search for the Run option first. If you cannot find the Run option, open My Computer on your computer’s desktop and type the address mentioned in the next step in the My Computer address bar instead.
Enter the following “\\1.1.1.1\” and replace 1.1.1.1 with the IP address you identified earlier in step 2

    1. When prompted, enter BlackBerry for the username and type the Wi-Fi access password you set earlier in step 1
    2. Your smartphone file system will appear on your desktop. Select Media to access your smartphone memory or select Removable_SDCARD to access the MicroSD card

BLACKBERRY TO SALE THEIR COMPANY

BlackBerry stock rose Monday after Canada's flagship technology company said its board has launched a formal review of its "strategic alternatives"  including the possibility of selling the smart phone
The company says the review could result in BlackBerry forming joint ventures, strategic partnerships or a sale of BlackBerry. It didn't specifically mention going private, an idea that has gained favour recently according to recent reports.

However, the long-anticipated formal strategic review which will seek to get the best deal for BlackBerry shareholders  pushed up BlackBerry share prices.

RIMTimeline: Research in Motion's rise and fall
BlackBerry shares were rose more than 10 per cent, or $1.08, to close at $11.13 on the Toronto Stock Exchange, which is about $8 below the high in January when the stock was boosted by optimism for its BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

The rising stock is a sign of shareholder frustration, according to equity analyst Troy Crandall, of the Montreal-based investment firm MacDougall, MacDougall and MacTier.

The BlackBerry 10 has not met expectations since its debut in January and the company has long talked about turning around its sagging fortunes.

But investors "haven't really seen much come forth from management," Crandall told CBC News. "It's about time they did something."

BlackBerry also announced Monday that Prem Watsa, the head of Canadian insurance company Fairfax Financial and one of BlackBerry's key shareholders, has resigned from the BlackBerry board due to potential conflicts.

Fairfax Financial, which owns 9.9 per cent of BlackBerry, is reported to be in talks with private equity investors to find ways to take BlackBerry private and his departure is taken as a sign of potential interest.

Others who may want to buy the company could include the Canada Pension Plan, which has previously expressed interest, and private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, which reportedly has been in talks with the company on possible collaboration.

Buyers would have been easier to find a few years ago during the company's heyday, said Crandall, when Microsoft, Oracle and other big names were thought to be interested.

"But things have changed and [those companies] are not so interested from what we can tell," he said.

Watsa joined the Blackberry board in early 2012 as part of attempts to revitalize the company, previously called Research In Motion, as its previous long-time co-CEOs stepped aside and installed Thorsten Heins as chief executive.

"I continue to be a strong supporter of the company, the board and management as they move forward during this process, and Fairfax Financial has no current intention of selling its shares," Watsa said in a statement issued by BlackBerry.

The announcement comes amid unconfirmed reports that the Waterloo, Ont.-based company may go private a move that could result in one or more investors buying out other shareholders and delisting the stock.

Last month, the company laid off 250 employees at its new-product testing facility, and in 2012 shed 5,000 jobs as it sought to regain its footing in the highly competitive smartphone market.

Heins said there are "compelling long-term opportunities" for the company's products including a new generation of BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and a new secure global data network.

  • If your sponsor is available on the network
  • If your sponsor has the minimum airtime required to sponsor the call
  • While the system is checking all the conditions in 2 above, you will hear the announcement:
  • "Call in progress. Please wait while your call is being connected."
  • When the system has confirmed that all the conditions in 2 above are OK, it will set up the call to your sponsor and s/he will also hear the announcement.

  • If your sponsor presses 1, the call will be connected and your sponsor will be charged for the call according to her/his MTN2MTN tariff plan rate.
  • If your sponsor presses 2, the call will be rejected and you will receive the notification message:
  • "Sorry, the call cannot be connected at the moment. Please try again later. Thank you!"
  • If your sponsor presses 3, the call will be connected and your number will be added to your sponsor¿s white list at the end of the call.

CAN SUPER EAGLES CATCH UP WITH THE TEAM IN THE WORLD?

Super Eagles coach,Stephen Keshi believes that Nigeria is making steady progress in rebuilding the national team, adding that the team will soon catch up with the rest of the world.
The Super Eagles on Wednesday lost 2-1 to Uruguay at the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup,but there is an aura of satisfaction, despite the defeat owing to the impressive display by the team.
Nigeria had the opportunities to take the game away from Uruguay, but weren’t lethal enough to land the killer punch,as the South American country took all three points.
“We gave the game our all but you know Uruguay has been together for eight years and we are just rebuilding, sooner than later we will catch up with the rest of the best teams in the world,” Keshi said after the game.
However Super Eagles captain,Vincent Enyeama blamed fatigue for the team’s loss on Thursday, adding that they have to do something special to defeat Spain on Sunday.
“It’s so painful that we played this well and were still on the losing side. I would been a happier person if we played badly and won the game”.

POS RECHARGE CARD PRINTIING MACHINE

RECHARGE CARDS' PRINTING MACHINES.

Before now I was showing people how to print recharge card from the comfort of their room and make money from it. But over time, I have discovered that it is difficult to break through and make profit from this business due to the following reasons:
  • Cost of computer, printer and UPS
  • Lack of constant power supply. If you have a generator, you have to fuel it which is costly
  • Cost of generator. The cheapest generator (I pass my neighbor) goes for N15,000; maintaining it could be between N700 – N1,500 monthly
  • Cost of printing paper
  • Cost of ink for the printer
  • Cost of browsing to download the bulk pins sent to your mailbox by the bulk pin dealer
  • Cost of transportation to make payment for the bulk pins
  • In some cases, you need to make phone calls to bulk pins company
If you add up all these expenses you will discover that it is difficult to make profit even when you invest huge capital in the business.
But recharge card printing has now been made simple with the POS (Point Of Sale) machine. With this you are not a direct dealer with the network subscribers but a sub dealer. You sell directly to the end users.
The POS recharge card machine is a handy device that allows you to print out recharge cards at the point of sales. It means you will only print out the recharge cards on demand. You don’t have to stock your recharge cards in a bag like everybody does. The technology used in POS machines ensures a speedy and secure transaction.
BENEFITS OF THE POS RECHARGE CARD MACHINE
  • No risk of theft because vouchers are not stored
  • No need to order and hold stock
  • No minimum order quantities
  •  Instant delivery
  •  Continuous availability of voucher
  • User friendly
  • Sell airtime on demand 24 hours a day
  • Daily and monthly management sales and profitability reports
  • It alerts you when the balance in your account is getting low and advises you to go to the bank and replenish your account
  • All the data of your transactions are stored in the server for a period of 7 years. After 7 years you can no longer access the records
The POS machine has the network of Glo, MTN, Zain, Etisalat, Multilinks, Starcomms, Visafone and Zoom Mobile. If anyone approaches you and wants to buy an MTN recharge card of N100, all you do is take up your POS, press the MTN button and then press 100 and send. Pronto, it prints out your N100 MTN card. If someone wants to buy N500 Starcomms recharge card, you click the starcomms button, press N500 and send. And it prints it out. It has a sharp edge which you use to detach the paper from the machine. When it prints out the recharge card, the pin can only be seen by you seller and the buyer when print out.
