Findings on the cause of examination malpractice

The findings of the study are as follows:
1.    Students’ perception of the causes of examination misconduct in secondary schools in Uvwie Local Government Area include crave for paper qualification, falling standard of education, poor educational background, poor school infrastructural facilities, irregular school calendar and bribery.
2.    The perception of male and female students on causes of examination misconduct in secondary schools in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State include bribery, poor educational background, mistrust and lack of confidence, poor economic  and social status of teachers and ineffective supervision.

3.    The perception of urban and rural students on the causes of examination misconduct in secondary schools in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State include poor record keeping, inadequate preparation and desire to pass at all cost, moral decadence of the society, negligence and lack of proper attention from parents and guardians and defunct security laxity in prosecuting offenders and lack of serious penalty for past offenders.

5.2    Conclusion

    Based on the research findings, it is concluded that crave for paper qualification by students is perceived as cause of examination misconduct. It is concluded that ineffective supervision by school principals and poor quality teaching by teachers contributes to causes of examination misconduct. This is because, lack of proper supervision on the part of school heads and supervisors to teachers and students result in examination misconduct. It is concluded that poor academic background on the part of the students causes examination misconduct. Also, poor school infrastructural facilities for effective teaching and learning and lack of confidence on the part of students coupled with the falling standard of education contribute to examination misconduct in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
    Finally, it is concluded that irregular school calendar and bribery practice among supervisors, inadequate preparation and desire to pass at all cost, overcrowded examination centres and poor seating arrangements coupled with moral decadence of the society contribute to examination misconduct
