Abstract
This research work investigated the influence of parental socio-economic status on students’ academic performance in selected senior secondary schools in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. Simple random sampling method was used to select five public and five private senior secondary schools for the research. The research instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire which was administered personally. Data obtained was analyzed using the mean and standard deviation. The results from the study show that there is significant difference in students’ academic performance between students with high parental socio-economic status and their counterparts with low parental socio-economic status. For the female students there is significant difference in the academic performance between female students with high parental socio-economic status and their counterparts with low parental socio-economic status. There is significant difference in students’ academic performance between male students with high parental socio-economic status and their counterparts with low parental socio-economic status. Also, there is significant difference in students’ academic performance between students with high parental educational level and their counterparts with low parental educational level. There is significant difference in students’ academic performance between students with high parental income level and their counterparts with low parental income level. From the analysis, some recommendations and conclusion were made at the end of the study.References
