CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOLS 4



1.2   Statement of the Problem
The problems which this research work is set out to investigate can be stated in question:
a.     Why do students indulge in examination malpractice?

b.     What are the problems encountered by students caught in examination malpractice?
c.     What are the roles of government in reducing examination malpractice?
1.3   Purpose/Objectives of the Study
The purpose of this study can be itemized as follows:
a.     To examine the causes, effects and solution to examination malpractice.
b.     To find out the reasons why students and teachers as well as office attendants engage in malpractice.
c.     To examine the measures which secondary schools have adopted to minimize or prevent examination malpractice.
d.     To determine the attitude of students towards examination malpractice.
e.     To examine the effectiveness of penalties on examination malpractice.
f.   To determine the possible solutions to the problem of examination malpractice in secondary schools.
 In addition, the study will make effort to explain strategies to be adopted by the government and the people to eradicate this social menace.
1.4   Research Question
a.     Why do students indulge in examination malpractice?
b.     What are the problems encountered by students caught in examination malpractice?
c.     What are the roles of government in reducing examination malpractice?
1.5   Hypothesis
Hypothesis is tentative statement stating the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. This tentative statement stands the choice of being conformed or rejected.
The following research question and hypothesis are formulated:
1.     There is no significant relationship between students who indulge in examination malpractice and the students who do not prepare well for the examination.
2.     There is no significant relationship between students who are caught in the examination hall and the students who are suspended or expelled because of examination malpractice.
3.     There is no significant relationship between the role of government in reducing examination malpractice and the use of law enforcement agency to provide security during examinations.
1.6   Scope of the Study
The scope of this study covers the student of three selected secondary/grammar school in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State.
