RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.0. Introduction 

In this chapter, the methods and procedures used in the study is discussed under the following headings:

 Research design 

 Population of the study 

 Sample and sampling techniques 

 Validity of research instrument 

 Methods of data collection 

 Methods of data analysis 

Research Design

The research design used in this study is the survey research design which is a non-experimented research design since it does not involve the use of controlled variables and it involves the use of questionnaires. 

The survey research design is employed because the study entails examining external factors involving student’s attitudes towards the learning of integrated science in secondary schools in Delta State. 

3.2. Population of the Study

The population of the study comprises all Secondary School students in Ughelli North Local Government Area in Delta State. 

There are a total number of seven (7) government Secondary Schools in Ughelli North which include: 

i. Agbarho Grammar School 

ii. Unity School Agbarho 

iii. Oguname Secondary School 

iv. Ehwerhe Secondary School 

v. Uvwama Secondary School

vi. Ikweghwu Secondary School 

vii. Ekerhavwe Secondary School

Sample Size and Sampling Technique 

The sample of the study is made up of hundred (100) secondary school students, 20 students from each of the five chosen secondary school in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. There are a total number of 3,450 students in the five selected schools. 

The simple random sampling technique was applied in selecting the 100 students out of 3,450 students in the five (5) selected schools. 

This is to ensure that each students had an equal chance to be selected for the study and to eliminate bias in the process. 

The table below is used to depict the population and sample size of each of the selected secondary schools respectively.
