Introduction
This chapter deals with the methodology used to investigate the effect of gender differences in the academic performance of the students in biology in College of Education, Warri. Furthermore, the chapter describes the instrument used for the research, population of the study, sample and sampling procedures, validation of the instrument and reliability of the instrument, method of data collection and method of data analysis.

3.2. Research Design
The research design used for this research was the descriptive (survey) design.
This research method is expected to carry out a comparative study of male and female students’ performance in Biology among students of College of Education, Warri.
3.3. Population of the Study
The population of the study consists of biology students of College of Education, Warri.
3.4. Sample and Sampling Technique
In this study, the sampling method adopted the convenience sampling technique. The researcher conveniently selected the 300 level students of College of Education in Biology Department in Warri Metropolis. The reason for this selection is because the researcher will not be able to reach all the Biology students in College of Education, Warri.
3.5. Research Instrument
The instrument for this research was a researcher developed questionnaire titled “Effect of Gender Differences in the Academic Performance of Students in College of Education, Warri.
The research instrument consists of 10 questions for the students and was built on a two clusters on which the respondents are requested to indicate their opinions on the two points summated scale of Yes and No. Two major problem areas were put into consideration by the researcher and questions were based on them.
The areas include difference in performance in Biology between male and female students and effect of teachers’ gender in performance of male and female students in biology. The research questions were designed to find out the extent to which gender differences affect the academic performance of student in biology in College of Education, Warri.
3.6. Validation of Instrument
The method of validating the research instrument, which is the questionnaire, is through content validity which was ensured through an expert judgment of the researcher’s supervisor.
3.7. Reliability of the Instrument
The method used for establishing the reliability of the research instrument was the test – retest method of reliability. The questionnaire designed by the researcher was administered to hundred (100) students using the test re-test method in order to determine the reliability of the instrument.
3.8. Method of Data Collection
The questionnaire was administered by the researcher herself and she ensured that the questionnaire was duly responded to and were collected immediately from the various respondents.

3.9. Method of Data Analysis
The responses from the retrieved questionnaires formed the data for analysis. In other to achieve the objectives of this study, the researcher used the chi-square statistics to analyze the information retrieved from the questionnaires.
The chi-square ()2 is a non parameter test that is very useful in many research situations. Chi-square formular
