Over 40% of the students failed in the SSSCE. This is too high for a country that is determined to use S&T for development. In addition, female students tend to have very low passes (less than 25%) in both the core and elective subjects.  Also the performance of the students seemed to be dependent on the geographical location of the school attended by the student.  Students in urban areas tend to perform better than those in rural areas at both the BECE and SSSCE
