roles of education in relationship to democracy. It does not seem appropriate
to merely say what democracy means without attempting to examine its general
principles, at least, as it is understood and operated by the United States of
America as the champion and one of the most stable democracies in the World.
Kneller (1971), a distinguished
America educator, in his edited book, Foundation of Education, examined
nine ideals underscoring the practice of democracy in the United States of
America. It is not being suggested here that other cultures must embrace and
practice democracy in either the Athenian way only.
