Early Marriage Influence and Female Teaching Aspiration

Marriage is defined as a means by which society regulates sexual behaviour provided for the bearing of children and allowed for the economic maintenance of the family unit. Marriage therefore, is a concept with varying definition by people in different profession (Ebenuwa-Okoh, 1995). Early marriage in this study is a marriage that takes place at early stage of a female.

In our world today most especially in the developing countries, early marriage take place as a result of poverty, low socio-economic status of the girl or the female. According to Babalola (1994) female educational aspiration and early marriage have a significant factor emasculating and quest. When girl gets into a man’s house in the name of marriage, the fact is that her parents, brothers, expect all that of her and sister in-law including her husband is to become pregnant and given them a baby at least to prove her womanhood first. Hence, anything that has to do with the development of the girl, especially educational could be left in the cooler until after the girl must have had about two children and above.
Adesoji (2009) say the issue of going back to school as he added, will be remembered, and this is if the girl is lucky to have married a man that has genuine value for education as well as if the family is still buoyant financially to cater for her schooling again and if yes education course as teaching. The above gives a simple picture of the barrios effect of early marriage on females’ educational quest.
